BotCon 2015: My Little Shopping Spree

Well the day finally came… it was time to pack up my stuff, and start making the long drive to Chicago for BotCon this year. I was excited to say the least, this was the first convention I was able to attend since 2010 when BotCon was held in Orlando. Orlando was fun, but since it was my first convention, it was a bit overwhelming. This time I had a better idea of what to expect. It was still a chaotic experience, but at least…

BotCon 2015: The Birth Of Transformers With Kojin Ono

The absolute highlight of my trip to BotCon this year, it was amazing to hear Kojin Ono talk about the process that lead up to the designs of some of the most iconic figures in the Transformers toy line. He was kind enough to share quite a few previously unseen early concept designs from the line, and it was incredible to see how much some of these figures changed from "concept" to "execution". Top that with the announcement that Takara-Tomy is bringing back Diaclone as a modern toy line, and this little nerd was on cloud nine.

I took the liberty of recording the audio, and snapping as many pictures as I could, for those of you who were unable to attend.

BotCon 2015: Behind The Characters With Derrick J. Wyatt

Well I was lucky enough to be able to attend this year's BotCon convention in St. Charles IL. I had every intention of attending as many panels as possible, but unfortunately that only turned out to be two of the Friday panels... before the dealer room opened up. Long story short; I sold quite a bit of stuff, and spent quite a bit more.

While I only collect G1 figures, I did like the Animated line a lot. While they were aesthetically quite different from what we've become accustomed to in the Transformers franchise, their simplicity of design really grabbed me. In an era where Transformers are getting more and more complicated, their transformations really harkened back to the days of yesteryear, and was very reminiscent of the simplicity of the Generation 1 toys. It was really interesting to hear Derrick Wyatt talk about the line, and learn a bit about the "behind the scenes" stuff. I used my tablet to record the audio for those of you who were unable to attend.

Oddities & Commodities: Transformers Black Zarak

We all know that when the original Transformers series ended here in the United States, Japan continued on with the Generation 1 continuity by releasing Victory, Zone, and Masterforce. These lines have spawned many of the most sought after figures in the collector community, including Raiden, Overlord, Dai Atlas, and Liokaiser. Along with a lot of original molds for these lines, they also included several repaints of existing figures, such as Twincast from Blaster, Soundblaster from Soundwave, and Grand Maximus from the Fort Max mold.…

Collector Tip: Toy Collection Cataloging Software

A lot of collectors keep a “collection list” to document their collections, rather it be for personal use, insurance purposes, for their families in case of death, or a variety of other reasons. The simple database/spreadsheet setup isn’t something that works for me though; the inability to add pictures is a major inconvenience for my needs. I did some searching around the web, and couldn’t find anything that was designed with toy collectors in mind, let alone being specifically designed for Transformers. I did however…

Shattered Cast Uncut Episode 74: Please Collect Respectively

Another week, another show! I don't collect anything these guys talk about, but I find the show really entertaining, and it's one of the few podcasts that has held my attention continuously for more than a week or two. This will probably turn into a weekly thing on the site; they've shown us a lot of love, and it's only appropriate that we do the same... enjoy!

Oddities & Commodities: Transformers Galaxy Shuttle

Well to quickly follow-up my article about Thunder Dagwon, what would be better than taking a look at the original version of that figure with Galaxy Shuttle? Part of my Pre-BotCon Grail Haul, this is a figure that I honestly didn’t think I would ever own, and would have been happy with just having the Brave repaint, but the Plastique Gods have smiled on me, and have seen fit to place this guy in my collection. Released in 1989 as part of the Japanese Victory…
