Transformers Roundtable 1

As I’ve slowly crawled my way back onto social media, I’ve kept a pretty low profile. Currently only utilizing Instagram and Twitter (along with my tfw2005 account) I have kept it simple, and as “toys only” as possible. Between the politically-charged spurts, and mentions of real-life struggles and triumphs, it’s easy to become distanced from how I’ve gotten to know, or would get to know, many online collectors – and this is my answer for that. The Roundtable experiment begins, and it’s gotten an…

Pt. 2 – “THIS” TOY COLLECTING MOTHERFUCKER

Well, I certainly have waited long enough to dive back into this subject. Filled with the liveliest of flesh-coated, yet humanity-barren beings that await around every bend of the digital world and in every aisle filled with childhood characters ready for capitalist consumption. Toy collecting motherfuckers can shift from either side of the scale in a moment’s short lifespan, and I’m certainly no exception. So let’s break this down, and get to the most important motherfucker that matters in your collecting journey. You, motherfucker!! (Well,…

Freak la Critique

OK, let me preface this by saying that I have absolutely ZERO educational background in cinematography; I have never taken a film class, I know absolutely nothing about what goes into making a movie, and to be honest… I don’t really effing care. What I do know, is what I like; I appreciate a good performance, I love a unique story (if there is such a thing any more), I despise gimmicky-over-the-top-special-effects that do nothing to aid in the telling of the story, and I’m…

BotCon 2015: My Little Shopping Spree

Well the day finally came… it was time to pack up my stuff, and start making the long drive to Chicago for BotCon this year. I was excited to say the least, this was the first convention I was able to attend since 2010 when BotCon was held in Orlando. Orlando was fun, but since it was my first convention, it was a bit overwhelming. This time I had a better idea of what to expect. It was still a chaotic experience, but at least…

BotCon 2015: The Birth Of Transformers With Kojin Ono

The absolute highlight of my trip to BotCon this year, it was amazing to hear Kojin Ono talk about the process that lead up to the designs of some of the most iconic figures in the Transformers toy line. He was kind enough to share quite a few previously unseen early concept designs from the line, and it was incredible to see how much some of these figures changed from "concept" to "execution". Top that with the announcement that Takara-Tomy is bringing back Diaclone as a modern toy line, and this little nerd was on cloud nine.

I took the liberty of recording the audio, and snapping as many pictures as I could, for those of you who were unable to attend.

BotCon 2015: Behind The Characters With Derrick J. Wyatt

Well I was lucky enough to be able to attend this year's BotCon convention in St. Charles IL. I had every intention of attending as many panels as possible, but unfortunately that only turned out to be two of the Friday panels... before the dealer room opened up. Long story short; I sold quite a bit of stuff, and spent quite a bit more.

While I only collect G1 figures, I did like the Animated line a lot. While they were aesthetically quite different from what we've become accustomed to in the Transformers franchise, their simplicity of design really grabbed me. In an era where Transformers are getting more and more complicated, their transformations really harkened back to the days of yesteryear, and was very reminiscent of the simplicity of the Generation 1 toys. It was really interesting to hear Derrick Wyatt talk about the line, and learn a bit about the "behind the scenes" stuff. I used my tablet to record the audio for those of you who were unable to attend.

The Fruits of Hard Labor

So I wrote earlier about selling off my Seeker collection… it was a hard decision to come to, but overall I don’t regret it at all. It’s taken me close to two months to get as far as I have, and I still have a long way to go, but so far I’ve been able to fund almost all of my so-called “Holy Grails”. I started this sale off with a rather long list of figures that I wanted to get, and had the intention…

Staying Active… Behind The Scenes

Greetings, salutations, peace to the nations! It’s been a while, and I apologize for not having any updates lately. It seems like I’ve had a lot going on over the last few weeks, and I just haven’t had the time to set down and write anything. So what’s been going on? Well quite a lot actually. I’m in the process of another huge collection purge, I’ve been tracking down some my personal “grails”, fleshing out a new category for the site, planning a last-minute trip…

A Party Game For This Horrible Person

To some I might be a little late to the party, but I’m sure there are those of you who haven’t given this game a try yet. I’ve heard chatter about this game for quite some time, but hadn’t ever taken the time to actually play it. Well for the last month or so I’ve been incredibly broke; not quite “I’m gonna end up homeless broke”, but more of a “I need to watch my spending and find some ‘free’ things to occupy my time…

Transformers Generation 1 Custom “Blackcat”

As a cassette hoarder, I am ALWAYS looking for some new, strange, or wacky variant I haven’t seen before. A dangerous path, and quite costly, I can’t say I recommend it. However, one of the advantages of hunting for that next oddball acquisition is the ability to not only see some of the strangest versions of toys you would never even think to look for – but you also find yourself wandering into the world of custom creations. As hard as it is to obtain…
