Digital Movie Poster Display: 2014 Movie Poster Collection

For those of you who have been following my Digital Movie Poster Display project (Part1, Part 2, Part 3), here is a collection of posters from 2014. All of the posters were sourced from IMPAwards (great place to find movie posters!), and had original files that were no smaller than 1,500 pixels on the long side, but most were quite a bit bigger. There are 1,112 posters in this file, all resized to 1920×1080 pixels, and rotated to fit on a standard 16:9 television screen.…

Digital Movie Poster Display: 2015 Movie Poster Collection

So I’ve recently been revisiting my Digital Movie Poster Display project (Part1, Part 2, Part 3). Some of the posters that I had originally put on there were not of the best quality, and my organization of them made it almost impossible to sort through them all to find the bad ones. So I decided to take time to re-download them all, and make sure that everything is up to par on the quality side. IMPAwards allows you to sort through their poster archive based…

Digital Movie Poster Display Part 3: A Taste Of Pi

Well you’ve set up your digital poster display using the TV’s slideshow feature, and a USB drive, but have hit the limits of the television’s firmware… it’s time to try a taste of Raspberry Pi! In this article I’ll cover how to use a Raspberry Pi unit to control your digital signage. I normally try to be pretty light-hearted (dare I say funny?) when I write, but there’s a lot of technical information to cover this time around… so if this article seems a bit…

Digital Movie Poster Display Part 1

Well just because I haven’t been very active lately doesn’t mean that I haven’t been up to nerdy things! My latest project? A digital movie-poster frame for my media room. In this article I’ll go into the basic (simple) setup I started with. In the following articles,  I’ll cover some of the more intricate things I got into with this project; including image sizing and adding Raspberry Pi into the mix to get more control over my display. The idea is simple. So simple in…

The Nerd Cave Reconfiguration: Framed Comic Book Art

With The Nerd Cave pretty much done, it still lacked a certain something. Some of you may remember Tony Glasses from some of the other projects I’ve been a part of over the years; most of you probably won’t, but I want to give credit where credit is due. One of the things that Mr. Glasses is known for is thinking outside of the box, and upon a recent visit to his place he didn’t fail to impress me. Tony is a huge Marvel fan,…

The Nerd-Cave Reconfiguration: G1 MiniBot & Cassette Display Case

Well with The Nerd-Cave Reconfiguration almost done, it was time to focus on finding an elegant way to display some of my smaller figures like the G1 Cassettes, and Mini-Bots. Not that these figures wouldn’t fit in the Detolfs I set up for the rest of my figures, but given their size they tend to get “lost” in the display with a bunch of larger figures, so I needed something to properly highlight these little guys. At the initial onset this was a rather daunting…

The Nerd-Cave Reconfiguration: Let There Be Light

Well with the backdrops done it was time to get these mother’s lit up like Xmas! As you may recall I did quite a bit of research on shelving, and the likes, before starting this whole project. I’d seen some very creative lighting options, but had been the most impressed with AgentCastle’s lighting. Since his overall setup most closely resembled what I had already had in mind it was only natural that his lighting had spoke to me the loudest; it practically screamed, “I INSPIRE…

The Nerd-Cave Reconfiguration: Backdrop It Like It’s Hot

With the construction of my cabinets done, it was time to start sprucing them up a bit. There’s nothing wrong with just plain ‘ol Detolfs, but I wanted to do something above and beyond the norm to really set my collection off. During my initial planning I had intended on putting a mirrored finish on the backs of my snazzy new Detolfs by applying mirrored window tint to them. I’d seen it done in a couple people’s collections, and had really liked the way it…

The Nerd-Cave Reconfiguration: Breaking Ground

So delivery day came, and there I was sitting in my living room staring out of the window anxiously awaiting the delivery guys (like a kid waiting for Santa Clause at Christmas). With no set delivery time, only an expected window of time to expect them in, every passing vehicle that sounded like it could be a delivery truck made me jump out of my seat and check to see if it was them. The delivery people soon showed up, and to my surprise, quickly…
